Regen-IT
- Sefton
The Need / Rationale
|
|
|
Regen-IT considers real issues involved in developing sustainable
regeneration schemes and projects and was developed with assistance
from Sefton
Borough Partnership and Sefton
Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
Based upon national, regional and local data, the learning-simulation (computer-based
resource management model) needed to get delegates to develop
solutions for a ‘Borough’, considering competing
agendas/trade-offs and seeking win-win-win solutions that acknowledge
individual views and create best-case solutions, for example:
• Decreasing the gap between different communities
in terms of affluence and health.
• Increasing community engagement, collaboration, team working and
access.
• Encouraging experts in various fields of the regeneration process
to work together towards a common goal.
• Being aware of all the separate entities that go towards implementing
a successful regeneration strategy, and how each impacts on
other areas.
|
The Solution
Regen-IT is a highly interactive learning-simulation,
which encourages teamwork, decision-making, devising and implementing
strategy, resource management and investigates the nature of
cause and effect. It relies on collaboration, communication
and compromise.
“Good fun. Encouraged planning
to look
at evidence to target the actions.”
|
|
|
|
|
Five teams each
take responsibility for a sector in a virtual community: Each
team has targets to reach in various aspects of implementing
a regeneration strategy across an area, and a set budget from
which to purchase items. Teams must stay within budget, make
improvements and consider the issues in other sectors.
|
Who would benefit
• Planning engagement
with local residents.
• Member and Officer (NRU / planners / HMR / environment).
• Local Strategic Partnerships / Public Sector.
• Private Sector training (architects / construction
/ developers).
“I will
try to get where we live to be as marvellous
as the one we created today.”

Alongside the learning-simulation we developed a couple
of planning / engagement tools (Map-IT
and Picture-IT).
