Planit-Sefton

The Need / Rationale

Sefton MBC had attended a workshop on the Planit-nw programme and they were impressed with the way the workshop developed a holistic understanding of sustainable development and got everybody involved. Sefton MBC decided that they could get more out of the learning-simulation (computer-based resource management model) if it was tied to their Council’s Floor Target rather than the Regional Action for Sustainability objectives in the original algorithm.

Tailored algorithm and bespoke scoring

“The workshop engaged everyone in serious issues
in a fun way. It gave a
good idea of the priorities
of other organisations.”

The Solution

We redeveloped the algorithm and developed a bespoke scoring system - PlanitSEFTON. The new scoring system required delegates to play a different strategy to the Regional simulation. We trained a group of in-house trainers and ran a couple of mentor sessions. When the trainers were confident they went on to train internal staff.

“Nice to go on training
that keeps you motivated throughout.”

The Outcome

Sefton MBC have made PlanitSEFTON a core part of its training programme. Ultimately   all of its employees will have gone through the programme:

Planit-Sefton Evaluation: Michele Wainwright, LSP Manager (Sefton MBC)
Year One - Attendance
There have been 14 Planit-Sefton Workshops and these have been attended by 223 people in total covering a wide range of representatives.

Feedback Summary
Out of the 164 people who completed an evaluation form, 163 felt that the overall event was “very good/good”
Attendees commented that:
The workshops had given them a wider knowledge and understanding of partnership working and communication
They had gained increased awareness of the Community Strategy/ Sustainable Development and recognised how strategies and departments/organisations are interlinked.
They would think more about their impact on wider community
They would endeavour to improve communication between departments and other organisations and link objectives more closely with Community Strategy, Corporate Plan and service plans

Year Two
Overall the Planit-Sefton workshops have been extremely successful and well received. We would therefore like to build on this success by:
Continuing the sessions in Year 2
Implementing a more detailed evaluation study to assess the overall impact
Ensuring that all Sefton Council Members, SBP members, Thematic Group members and related Partner organisations have attended a Planit-Sefton workshop
Promoting Planit-Sefton as good practice both within and outside Sefton.
Consider the future of Planit-Sefton after March 2007
