The following statistics are drawn from an evaluation of
the Planit-nw project, which delivered training to 982

and understanding of sustainable development.
• 80% of delegates say the workshop has increased the importance
of sustainable development and joined up thinking in community
plan.
• 67% of delegates say Planit-nw improved their decision-making.
• 67% say Planit-nw workshops have improved working relationships
and joint working within local communities.
Dominic Harrison, Director of the North West Health
Development Agency (HDA), said: "
We support this innovatory approach, which raises the vital
issue of partnership approaches to sustainable development
and allows us to progress towards meeting our needs today
as well as those of generations to come."
“Gets everyone talking to each other
and developing a common approach.”
The impact of the North West programme is being felt right
across the region. LSP Coordinators report that sustainable
development has become more important in the operations
of the partnership. For example, Salford LSP report the
setting up a Sustainable Development Commission; Sefton
LSP talk of the raised priority of sustainable development
and a more holistic decision-making process feeding into
the community strategy; South Ribble LSP say that Planit
has resulted in the use of the Integrated Appraisal Toolkit;
Warrington LSP is encouraged that where once issues were
being seen separately they are now being linked and that
this is feeding into the Community Strategy; and in South
Lakeland, the Council is drawing up papers so that the
learning is embedded into the processes rather than being
lost .
